The Chains That Bind

When was it I became so lost

along life’s winding way?

My steps were steady, sure and strong

no worries in each day

One careless trip was all it took

though small and not my fault

Abruptly motion stopped for me

my feet brought to swift halt

Dense angry trees with vines throughout

no welcome there to see

Soon fear slipped in shadowed by dread

what dangers would there be?

All clarity of mind withdrew

black clouds grew in each breath

Illusions, lies and monsters lurked

to move now could mean death

Hope fled the scene no help in sight

how blind now would I be?

I failed to hear Loves silent cry

just turn and Light you’ll see
